Stress is a feeling of emotional or physical tension which can come from any event or thought that can make you feel angry, nervous or frustrated. While stress in the short-term can be positive, but over a long period of time stress can be harmful to your physical and mental health. You will learn to recognize symptoms of stress and build your resources to help you manage the stressors in your life using active coping skills. You will also get information on tips and strategies to manage stressful situations.

Coping with anxiety and depression

Everyone has symptoms of anxiety and depression at times. You will learn to recognize these symptoms, and learn healthy lifestyle practices and other tools to alleviate these symptoms. Just as we seek medical advice for an illness, it is equally important to get help when we feel overwhelmed or when symptoms of anxiety or depression affects us. You will also learn how and where to get help.

Managing moods & emotions

We often want to get rid of intense moods and emotions only to see them coming back stronger. Strong, unwanted emotions can be draining, and can lead to physical health problems. You will learn to better recognize your emotions and to manage them in a healthy way. You will also learn how our emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and social relationships affect one another, and how you can use that connection manage emotions.

Effective decision making

Critical thinking enables us to meet life demands and make better decisions. Emotions can affect our ability to solve problems; sometimes the influence of emotions is positive, and sometimes it is not. In this interactive session, you will learn the role of emotions in decision making. You will also learn about other factors that interfere with effective decision-making, and about the ways to overcome these roadblocks and increase effective problem-solving.

Rational thinking

Does it ever seem like your mind has.. well.. a mind of its own? In some way, that’s exactly what is happening, and our thoughts -- whether you are aware of them or not -- can significantly influence our emotional and physical well-being. You will learn how to recognize your automatic thoughts, and how to check whether these thoughts are valid or distorted. You will also learn techniques to help reframe your thoughts and make your thoughts more rational.
